Enterprise data access & governance

Make data access clear, controlled and auditable.

BDP DataGuard centralizes the people, policies and approvals behind enterprise reporting access—so the right users can see the right information across enterprise data platforms and reporting tools.

The challenge

Reporting access gets harder as data grows.

When users, roles and security rules are spread across systems and manual requests, it becomes difficult to understand who has access, why they have it and whether it still fits their job.

DataGuard provides a central place to administer access definitions and coordinate requests, approvals and security updates. It helps business owners and technical teams work from the same governed process.

One access process. Clear ownership. Better visibility into reporting permissions.

The platform

Bring access governance into one workflow

DataGuard covers the administrative work behind reporting security, from user provisioning to the rules that determine what appears in a report.

01 / Identity

User provisioning

Create local users or import from Active Directory, maintain user details and review assigned access.

02 / Governance

Requests and approvals

Request access for yourself or another user and route the request through configured review steps.

03 / Policy

Roles and groups

Define reusable roles by business dimension and combine them into security groups for common access patterns.

04 / Enforcement

Row-level security

Use role conditions to restrict records by region, business unit or other approved business dimensions.

05 / Sensitive fields

Column security

Manage restrictions for selected fields alongside row-level rules where a reporting use case calls for them.

06 / Oversight

Preview, jobs and logs

Review assigned access, run scheduled mapping updates and inspect request and job history.

How it works

From business request to governed report

A request can specify access directly, use a reviewed copy of another user’s access, or select an existing security group. The workflow then follows configured approval rules.
01

Request

A user or manager identifies the person and the access needed.

02

Review

The assigned approver checks the business need and proposed permissions.

03

Apply

Approved roles and conditions feed scheduled user security mappings.

04

Validate

Teams check effective access in the connected data platform and reports.

Designed for enterprise reporting

Built around the way access is actually managed

The platform connects policy administration with the operational steps needed to make reporting security work.

Business dimensions and roles

Define allowed data using meaningful organizational structures.

Manager and administrator review

Put approval and exception handling in a traceable process.

Data platform and reporting integration

Validate security behavior in the data and reporting environment where users work.

Current stage

Focused validation before wider adoption

DataGuard has been developed for an enterprise reporting-security use case. A proof of concept is validating the platform with selected users, roles and reports.

For a new organization, BDP would review the environment, access model and integration needs before defining implementation scope.

  • Configure representative access rules
  • Test approvals and user mappings
  • Confirm report behavior and plan the rollout

Questions

What should you know?

Yes. DataGuard is designed to be platform agnostic and can be adapted to data warehouses such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, Databricks SQL and Azure Synapse Analytics. The integration method, available security controls and validation plan are confirmed for each environment.

Configured workflows can route requests to managers or other reviewers who confirm the business need before access moves forward.

That depends on the configured synchronization schedule. A scheduled job generates user security mappings; teams should validate the resulting access in reports.

The current reference engagement is being validated through a focused proof of concept. A broader rollout requires agreed scope, integration work and successful testing in the target environment.
